Eye color
StandardEyes will be black. Like all animals the pupil can sometimes reflect a red light but this is rare for rats. The blue some people see is the the sclera and is not the eye color.

Roan eyes"Roan eyes" is a termed used in the fancy to describe the red pupil in Roan rat's eyes. Roan can in some instances dilute the eye color from black to dark ruby as seen on the last picture.

Odd eyeAlso known as heterochromia. More common in Blazed rats. One eye will be diluted or pigmented, sometimes only part of the eye will be diluted leaving the base color partly visible.

Black Eye GeneThe hypostatic dominant gene, Black Eye, is only visible on C locus rats. It is in fact not entirely black but shine dull red in bright light, but nevertheless it's called Black Eye gene.
This is not the same gene responsible for standard black eyes. The BE gene only works on rats who are C locus based. |
